Vaginal dryness and sexual dysfunction

Women in the years before menopause often experience a wide variety of symptoms including decline in their sexual function.  In a recent study in the journal Menopause, 70.6% of participating women between the ages of 40 and 55 reported sexual dysfunction.  About half of the younger women (ages 40-45) and 80% of the older women (52-55) reported sexual dysfunction.  Vaginal atrophy or thinning of the vaginal wall which can cause vaginal dryness was the main cause of sexual dysfunction for the women.

There are many treatments available for vaginal dryness and vaginal atrophy including hormonal and non-hormonal.  Laser treatments in the vagina are also available.  None of the currently available treatmens are permanent but long term solutions are available.
